City sued over group homes

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The running controversy over group homes for recovering substance abusers in Gainesville has landed in U.S. District Court.

A suit has been filed against the city by the owners of Agora House and Alpha House and three residents of a home on Riverside Terrace.

The city has ordered that home and four others vacated because they are being operated in violation of the zoning in those areas. The others are on Hillcrest Drive, Ivy Terrace and Northside Drive.

The 23-page suit seeks to have the city prevented from shutting them down.
