Gladiators Beat Royals on OT, 4-3

READING - Brad Schell posted his second game winning goal of the season since joining the Gladiators less than a month ago as he notched the power play game winning goal in overtime to propel Gwinnett past Reading 4-3 on Sunday night at the Soverign Center in Reading, Pennslyvania. Schell's winning tally came with just 12 seconds left in overtime for Gwinnett.

Reading opened up a 1-0 lead on the Gladiators with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 11:06 of the first period. Patrick Jarrett collected a loose puck along the goal line and tapped it past Gladiators netminder Craig Kowalski for the marker. Scott Parse and Patrik Hersley hooked up to pick up the assists on the power play goal for the Royals.

Joe Zappala gave the Royals a 2-0 lead at 14:15 of the first period. Taking advantage of a bad Gladiators line change, Zapalla took a pass from Jarrett in the left wing circle and ripped a slap shot past Kowalski for the marker. Royals netminder Jonathan Quick also had an assist on the power play goal, playing the puck up the left wing to set up the goal.

Gwinnett got on the board in the second period on the power play. Stuart MacRae picked up a rebound in the slot and rolled the puck to the short side past Reading netminder Jonathan Quick for the goal. Jeff Mason and Matt Anderson had the assists on the power play goal for Gwinnett at 5:11 of the second period.

Mike Hamilton tied the game at two withi his 17th goal of the season. Picking up a loose puck in the slot, Hamilton flicked the puck past Quick for the tally. Brad Schell and Ryan Mahrle collected the assists on the goal for Gwinnett at 5:48 of the third period.

Reading regained the lead with their third power play goal of the game at 11:28 of the third period. Steven Later walked into the slot from his point position and ripped a slapshot over the shoulder of Kowalski for the marker. Vladimir Dravecky and Danny Roussin notched the assists on the power play goal for the Royals.

Gwinnett tied the game at three with just 30 seconds left in the third period with a power play goal by Lou Dickenson. With Kowalski pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Dickenson picked up a rebound along the goal line and flicked the puck past Quick for the Gladiators marker. Jeff Campbell and Mahrle picked up the assists on Dickenson's 22nd goal of the season for Gwinnett.

On another power play, Brad Schell collected his 3rd goal of the season and second game winner of the year, ripping a slap shot from the right wing circle past Quick for the winning marker. Tomas Pospisil notched an assist on the goal for Gwinnett.

Kowalski finished with 20 saves in the win for Gwinnett as the Gladiators tied a team season record for fewest shots allowed in a period in the second, limiting Reading to just 3 shots in the stanza. Gwinnett finished 3-for-10 on the power play in the win.
