Elmira - Tomas Pospisil recorded his 5th game winning goal of the season for the Gladiators late in the third
period to propel Gwinnett past Elmira 3-2 on Friday night at the First Arena in Elmira. With the win,
the Gladiators improve to 29-14-5 on the season. Gwinnett continues its northern road trip on Saturday
night in Trenton at 7 p.m.
The Gladiators and the Jackals skated to a scoreless tie through the first period as Gwinnett outshot
Elmira by a 10-8 margin. Gladiators netminder Craig Kowalski turned aside all 8 shots he saw for
Gwinnett, while Elmira's Joel Martin collected 10 saves in the first period at the other end of the ice to keep the game scoreless after the first period.
The Gladiators broke a scoreless tie with 6:20 left in the second period. Jamie Milam notched his ninth
goal of the season for Gwinnett and his first for the Gladiators since December 13th to give Gwinnett the
lead. Sliding into the slot from his point position, Milam was fed in the slot by Bryson Busniuk
before ripping the puck past Martin for the marker. Andy Brandt also had a helper on the goal for
Gwinnett.
Jeff Campbell gave the Gladiators a 2-0 lead just 1:50 later. Trailing a 2-on-1 break with Lou Dickenson, Campbell took a drop pass in the slot from Dickenson and flicked a backhand shot over the shoulder of Martin for the marker. Campbell's 14th goal of the season came at 15:30 of the second period.
Elmira got on the board just 3:25 into the third period. Bobby Robbins was able to find a loose puck in
the slot and roll it past Kowalski to cut the Gladiators lead in half. Bruce Watson and Jim McKenzie
collected the assists on the goal for the Jackals.
Tomas Pospisil gave the Gladiators a 3-1 lead with his 11th goal of the season. Digging the puck off the
back dashers, Pospisil muscled his way to the front of the net before rolling the puck past Martin for
the goal. Pospisil's goal came unassisted for the Gladiators at 16:55 of the third period.
Elmira again pulled within a goal with 1:30 left in the final period. Pierre-Luc Faubert centered the
puck into the slot off the skate of a Gladiators defenseman and past Kowalski for the marker. Benoit
Doucet and Chaz Johnson had the assists for the Jackals on the goal.
Despite pulling Martin in the final minute of the contest, Elmira could get no closer with the extra
attacker. Both teams finished 0-for-6 on the power play. Kowalski finished with 24 saves in the win for
Gwinnett.
