APALACHICOLA BAY, Fla. - People in Apalachicola Bay, Fla., made their case Monday night for their oyster industry during a water sharing hearing conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Most of those who addressed corps' officials said all they are asking is for enough water to protect the oyster beds in the bay.
The hearing was the first of a series to be held this week and next in Alabama, Florida and Georgia over water in Lake Lanier and other upstream reservoirs.
The next hearing is Tuesday night in Dothan, Ala. Other hearings are planned in LaGrange, Ga., Wednesday night and Marietta, Ga., Thursday night.
A hearing will be held in Gainesville Oct. 29.
