Georgia notebook: Ellerbe doubtful for Saturday

By staff reports
ATHENS -- The No. 10-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (5-1, 2-1 SEC) practiced for two hours in jerseys, shoulder pads and shorts Wednesday as they get set for a Homecoming date with No. 22 Vanderbilt (5-1, 3-1 SEC) at Sanford Stadium.

Georgia head coach Mark Richt said he has been impressed with the team speed of the Commodores and how they lead the league in all the important statistical categories.

"Vanderbilt can run, I said that after watching the South Carolina game, and I've studied them on film this week and my opinion hasn't changed." said Richt. "The have the second best turnover ratio, they are excellent in punting, punt return and they don't have a lot of penalties. They are very effective in the Red Zone both on offense and defense, and they have the most sacks."

Richt said he appreciated the outstanding work of the Bulldog scout team, saying they have provided goods look the last few days and that the team has made progress because of their efforts.

In personnel news, sophomore strong safety Quintin Banks re-injured his knee and will be out for at least couple of weeks, according to Richt. No surgery will be required. Also, senior linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and junior split end Kris Durham are doubtful to play this Saturday.

"I think there's a very good chance both of them will contribute versus LSU," said Richt.

On the offensive line, sophomore Josh Davis is working at left tackle behind sophomore Clint Boling while sophomore Kiante Tripp is seeing time behind redshirt freshman Justin Anderson at right tackle. Georgia's projected starting unit features two true freshman in guard Cordy Glenn and center Ben Jones along with sophomore Chris Davis at the other guard spot.

Saturday's game will be televised regionally by Raycom with kick off slated for 12:34 p.m. ET. All Georgia games also are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on WDUN AM-550. The radio audio also can be heard worldwide on both georgiadogs.com, the official website of UGA Athletics, and on XM satellite radio.
