Oakwood home invasion may have been gang-related

By Staff Reports
OAKWOOD - A home invasion in South Hall Thursday that lead to a a manhunt and the lockdown of three schools may have been gang-related.

Hall County Sheriff's Maj. Jeff Strickland said 26-year-old Jose Luis Bautista-Osorio and 18-year-old Wayne Adam Shaw are members of the SUR-13 gang.

"We do feel this was gang-related," Strickland said. "We do feel the house was targeted for the purpose of stealing a firearm."

He added that when the two broke into the house at 2216 Lee Land Road, an 11-year-old boy who was there hid in a closet and called 911.

One suspect was caught quickly, according to Strickland. The other lead deputies on a long foot chase that ended at Hollywood Video on Winder Highway.

Strickland said the chase involved several deputies and search dogs.

"We used K-9's from the Gainesville Police and the Hall County Sheriff's Office," he added.

During the chase, Chicopee Woods Elementary, South Hall Middle and Johnson High schools were under lockdown and sheriff's deputies provided extra security at the schools.
