By The Associated Press
BOONE, N.C. - Kellen Brand scored 20 points, Donald Sims added 19 and Appalachian State pulled away in the second half for its sixth straight win, 88-81 over Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Sims hit two 3-pointers in an 18-6 run early in the second half that broke a tie and put the Mountaineers (11-6, 6-2 Southern Conference) ahead to stay.

Simms, who scored a career-high 28 points in Thursday's win over Chattanooga, hit five of Appalachian State's 13 3-pointers. Donte Minter added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Jeremy Clayton had 15 points for the Mountaineers, who shot 51 percent.

Louis Graham had 22 points and 11 rebounds, Willie Powers scored 16 points and Dwayne Foreman had 15 for Georgia Southern (12-6, 5-3), which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

The Eagles, who beat the Mountaineers at home in December, made just 12 of 19 free throws. Appalachian State was 17 of 32 from the line.
