Feed mill fire damages almost $10k

By Ashley Cox
FLOWERY BRANCH - Damages from a fire at Southern States Feed Mill Tuesday morning totaled nearly $10,000.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said the fire began when sparks dropped down into the storage bin, igniting the grain.

Damages have been estimated at $8,000.

"The grain is transported from the basement up a chute, or grain elevator," Cagle said. "Our investigation found that's where the fire started."

Cagle said the piece of machinery that caught fire had been scheduled for maintenance. He said there was little damage to the building itself.

Firefighters were on the scene for more than two hours, although the blaze was quickly brought under control shortly after the alarm was sounded about 5:00.
