City BOE holds forum on charter school proposal Monday

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Board of Education (BOE) holds a public forum Monday on its proposal for a charter school system, the same day it meets for its organizational session for the new year. The Hall County BOE plans its organizational meeting Tuesday.

The public form on the charter school proposal for city schools will be held at 4:30 Monday at school board offices on Oak Street. The Marietta, Morgan County, Warren County and Social Circle school systems are also considering charter system applications. Hall County plans to open its first charter school in the fall at Chestnut Mountain.

Also Monday, the city school board will hold a work session at 5:00 at which time new board members Maria Calkins and Sammy Smith will be sworn in.

HALL BOE

The Hall County school board would normally meet Monday as well for a work session and organizational meeting but because the first day of class after the holiday break is not until Tuesday, the board will not meet until then.

It will be a regular work session except that it will include the naming of the board chairman, vice-chairman and other annual appointments.
