GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville City Council has given the go ahead for the city fire department to apply for two grants.
Chief Dick Taylor says the federal grant would allow him to hire 12 additional full time employees, "To flesh out full time staffing for our ladder truck."
It is a depreciating grant that would last for five years.
The Fireman's Fund grant, worth $5 thousand dollars, would be combined with money already in the budget to purchase 15 new sets of turnout gear.
Taylor says they should know about both within the next couple of months.
