Clark Atlanta at a glance

By The Associated Press

A look at the 2007 Clark Atlanta Panthers:

COACH _ Ted Bahhur, third year, 8-13 record.

LAST YEAR _ 5-5 overall, 2-4 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (seventh).

OFFENSE _ Injuries caused the Panthers to struggle at the start of 2006, but they finished with a three-game winning streak. The signing of JUCO QB Robert Coats should help a subpar passing game. RBs A.J. Stokes and Roderick McKinney are a solid combination. All-SIAC T Jonathan Didier anchors the offensive line.

DEFENSE _ Nine starters return to a unit that led the conference with fewest yards allowed. LBs Michael Porter and Curtis Johnson, both all-conference selections, are the top returnees.

OPENER _ Aug. 25 vs. Fort Valley State

OUTLOOK _ In past years, the Panthers were pushovers in the SIAC. Now, with a top-ranked defense and an improved offense, they look more like contenders than pretenders.
