Police: Student quarterback in fatal wreck had cocaine in system

<p>Daniel Peek, the Brookwood High School starting quarterback who died following a May car crash, had cocaine in his system at the time of the wreck, police said Monday.</p><p>Toxicology tests performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found cocaine in Peek's system, Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Darren Moloney said.</p><p>Peek, who was 17, was also legally drunk, with a blood alcohol content of .138. Georgia's legal intoxication level is .08, and under state law, anyone under age 21 is subject to a DUI arrest with a blood alcohol level of .02 or higher.</p><p>Peek died May 9, four days after the wreck on Highpoint Road near Snellville. He was alone and was not wearing a seat belt when his Jeep ran off the road, hit a mailbox and overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle.</p><p>Police have been trying to find out where he was drinking on the Saturday night of the crash, but Moloney has said that charges are unlikely in the case.</p><p>Peek was one of seven players, including four starters, who were suspended for the first two games of the 2006 season for violating team undisclosed rules involving a weekend party.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x2e141a0)</p>
