GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Board of Education and the Gainesville City Council will hold a joint meeting Monday, another of the periodic meetings the two groups have to discuss mutual issues.
Prior to that meeting, the BOE will meet at 5:30 to discuss a new site that has been found on Mundy Mill Road for a new elementary school. A previous site did not pass a state inspection.
The meeting with the City Council will follow at 6:00. Both will be held at Gainesville High School.
The school board learned in January 2006 that the original parcel of land - a part of the 600-home Mundy Mill Station development - which was set aside for the school had been eliminated as a viable option.
Schools Superintendent Steve Ballowe said at the time the site had environmental problems that would prevent a school from being built there. The new site is also a part of the Mundy Mill Station property.
