A Plains post office will be renamed the "Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter" post office on Wednesday during an unveiling ceremony, in honor of the late president and frist lady Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter.
The hometown heroes will be celebrated for their unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts, community engagement, and mental health advocacy. Organizations like "The Carter Center" and their work with Habitats For Humanity showcases committment to community work post-presidency. Their philanthropy has inspired generations with their dedication to improving lives both domestically and globally.
The bill to dedicate the post office was signed by the President on January 4, 2025 and became Public Law 118-268.
Local elected officials, postal representatives, and family and friends will all join to celebrate the dedication on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Plains Community Center 106 Main Street, Plains, GA 31780. This dedication ceremony will celebrate the Carters’ significate contributions to society, and the building will serve as a lasting symbol of their legacy and inspire future generations to engage in service and advocacy for those in need.
The public is invited to attend this free event.
Attendants will include James “Chip” Carter III, Lillian Allethea Smith Wall, The Honorable Joseph Recker, Jr. (Mayor of City of Plains, GA) and more.
