GAINESVILLE - Members of the Longstreet Society are holding their annual meeting in Gainesville this weekend.
The session got underway Friday night.
The group had hoped to celebrate the completion of the renovation of the Piedmont Hotel, which Confederate General James Longstreet owned after moving to Gainesville following the Civil War. But, the group's president, Richard Pilcher, says work is not yet finished.
Some of the people in town for the meeting were expected to spend a few hours working on the restoration of the hotel. Also on the agenda: tours of Longstreet Hills, the subdivision on the northside of town in the area where Gen. Longstreet lived, and his gravesite at Alta Vista Cemetery.
