ATHENS - Gainesville golfers Josh Bunch and Greg Lee finished the first round of the Athens Regional Foundation Classic Thursday eight and nine shots off the lead, respectively.
Bunch, who played the Hooters tour for a couple of years, shot a two-over-par 74, while Lee, a pro at Chicopee Woods Golf Course, fired a first-round 75.
The leader heading into Friday's second round of play is Martin Laird, who shot a 66 Thursday. Laird is a 24-year-old Colorado State graduate from Glasgow, Scotland, who has made five of six cuts on the Nationwide Tour this season.
The tournament is being played at Jennings Mill Country Club. The purse is $500,000 with $90,000 to the winner.
