BLAIRSVILLE - Levi Leipheimer surged to the top of Brasstown Bald to capture his second straight stage victory Friday in the Tour de Georgia, while Janez Brajkovic remained the overall leader after five stages.

Leipheimer, an American riding for the Discovery Channel team, covered the 106.9-mile course through mountainous north Georgia in 4 hours, 33 minutes, 33 seconds. Teammate Tom Danielson finished second 38 seconds back.

``I felt great yesterday and today, and I had the legs to keep going,'' Leipheimer said after winning the race to the highest point in Georgia at 4,784 feet.

Brajkovic, a Slovenian who also rides for Discovery Channel, led American Christian Vandevelde of Team CSC by 12 seconds in the overall standings.

Leipheimer, Danielson, Brajkovic and VandeVelde were at the front of the peloton most of the race, which was held under sunny skies, with mild temperatures and a light breeze.
