Rodriguez introduced as Michigan coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Rich Rodriguez has been introduced as the new head football coach at the University of Michigan, replacing Lloyd Carr. Rodriguez left West Virginia for the Big-10 school.

Rodriguez, a native of West Virginia, said it had to be a special job to pry him away from his home state and the stature of the Michigan program was enough. The 44-year old is the first head football coach to come outside of the ``Michigan family,'' as athletic director Bill Martin put it.

Rodriguez build West Virginia into a Big East power, winning the conference championship this year for the fourth time in five seasons. His overall record was 60-and-26.

Of leaving WVU, he said it's never easy to leave one program for another.
