CARROLLTON - Daryl Dickey, who spent six seasons as a quarterback coach at Florida State, was named head coach at West Georgia on Wednesday.
Dickey replaces Mike Ledford, who resigned in November. The 25-year-old coaching veteran missed a year of football after his contract was not renewed at FSU.
Dickey spent four seasons at Presbyterian, guiding the Blue Hose to a 9-2 record in 2000, which was the school's best record since 1979. He spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Georgia Southern.
In 1985, Dickey led the Southern Conference in passing efficiency while at Tennessee, and he had a couple stints in the NFL with San Diego Chargers and the Memphis Showboats of the USFL.
He inherits a team that finished 10th in the Gulf South Conference and had an 2-9 record this season.
Dickey is also the son of Doug Dickey, who served as head coach at Tennessee and Florida.
