Saturday's hoops round up; War Eagles sweep, North Hall girls get first win

GAINESVILLE - The Chestatee boys basketball team won its second straight game in as many days holding off Lakeview Academy 51-42 Saturday night at the Lakeview gym.

Brandon Jovaag led the War Eagles with 19 points and Parker Smith added 16 for Chestatee.

Chestatee (2-1) jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and took a 28-25 lead into halftime. The War Eagles increased their lead to 38-33 heading into the fourth quarter and outscored Lakeview 13-9 in the final period.

David Pruett led Lakeview (2-2) with 11 points and Tyler Ward added 9.

Chestatee girls 41

GAINESVILLE - Peyton Robertson poured in a season-high 16 points to lead Chestatee past Lakeview Academy on the road.

Kasey Smith added 11 for Chestatee (2-4) which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Maddie Haymore led Lakeview Academy (0-3) with 10 points.

North Hall girls 59
West Hall 38

MURRAYVILLE - North Hall got its first win of the season leading virtually from start to finish in a win over West Hall.

The Lady Trojans (1-1) led just 9-4 after the first quareter but used a 15-9 second quarter to open up a 24-13 halftime lead and cruised in the second half. North Hall led 41-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

Senior Leteicia Davenport led North Hall with 23 points. Elizabeth Williams added 17 for the Lady Trojans.

West Hall (2-3) was paced by 21 points from Jayla Moon.

Pickens girls 54
North Forsyth 51

JASPER - After building a 20-point first quarter lead Pickens held off a furious fourth-quarter rally to beat Class AAAAA North Forsyth Saturday night.

The Nettes (3-3) sprinted out to a quick 25-5 first quarter lead and went into halftime with a 36-11 lead.

But North Forsyth (2-3) battled back in the third quarter to cut the lead to 45-34 heading into the final period. The Lady Raiders tied the game at 51-51 with less than 30 seconds left but the Nettes' Whitney Shirley, on a nice pass from Jenna Jarrett, completed a three-point play with four seconds left to give Pickens the lead.

The Lady Raiders had one final shot to tie the game but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Pickens was led by Lindsey Logan with 15 points. Jarrett added 13 for the Nettes.

North Forsyth was led by Sydney Seitz with 23 points, including 12-of-20 from the free throw line.

Pickens will travel to Chestatee on Tuesday in a Region 7-AAA battle.
