Lanier reaches new all-time low

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
BUFORD - The level of drought-plagued Lake Lanier reached a new all-time low overnight as the Lula City Council votes to fine people who violate outdoor water use restrictions.

As of 4:00 Tuesday morning, the lake level stood at 1052.60... six-hundredths of a foot below the old record which was set in December 1981.

That's according to the U.S. Geological Survey Web site.

How far and how rapidly has it fallen? W ell, consider that it was 1066.02 at the end of June. That's drop of 13.42 feet in just five months.
