Oldest Georgian Ann Langston Christopher dies at 112

<p>Georgia's oldest resident has died at age 112.</p><p>Anne Langston Christopher of Rome died Wednesday. A memorial service was held Saturday in Pickens, S.C., according to Tommy Harris of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens.</p><p>The oldest documented Georgian, she was the seventh-oldest person in the country and the 11th oldest person in the world, said Georgia State University gerontology researcher Robert Young.</p><p>Christopher was born in South Carolina on March 4, 1895 and died in Rome.</p><p>Her death means Besse Cooper of Monroe is now Georgia's oldest resident at 111, Young said. She was born on Aug. 26, 1896.</p><p>When asked to explain her longevity, Christopher said in a 2006 Atlanta Journal-Constitution article, "I don't know. I wonder why. I haven't done anything special. ... We don't know why I'm living so long, do we?"</p><p>She once attributed her good health and long life to eating and sleeping well.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x2de9cfc)</p>
