Deputy warden to head Jackson County Correctional Institute

<p>Jackson County commissioners have appointed former deputy warden Johnny Weaver to replace the warden fired in August following allegations that she misused inmate labor and county funds.</p><p>Commissioners named Weaver to the post at Jackson County Correctional Insitute after a two-month search to replace former warden Vickie Underwood.</p><p>The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the state Department of Corrections launched an investigation into the misuse of inmate labor at the prison after Weaver filed a formal complaint with the corrections department in June.</p><p>The GBI has completed a review of the allegations against Underwood and has handed over the results to Piedmont Circuit District Attorney Rick Bridgeman's office. Bridgeman would not say whether he will seek to have Underwood indicted.</p><p>Weaver took over day-to-day operations of the prison over the summer.</p><p>Weaver was deputy warden in charge of security at the prison for four years and had worked for the state Department of Corrections for more than 20 years.
