Home invasion victims ask for 'privacy'

GAINESVILLE - The victims of a botched home invasion in South Hall that left the intruder dead are asking for privacy as they deal with the trauma of what happened.

Doug and Diane Magnus released a statement Monday through Gainesville attorney and family friend Eddie Hartness.

"Mr. and Mrs. Magnus are taking some time to try to make sense of what happened, get over the shock and deal with what happened," the statement read. "Needless to say, the experience was very traumatic and unsettling. They would appreciate everyone, especially the press, respecting their privacy."

The sheriff's department says the intruder, Robby Bailey of Winder, was shot and killed early Sunday. The statement released through Hartness said it was Doug Magnus who fired the fatal shot. The incident happened at the couple's home in the 4000 block of Winder Highway near Chestnut Mountain.
