Avenue of Flags on BOE retreat agenda

GAINESVILLE - The Avenue of Flags at Gainesville High School, which has raised the ire of some people, will be up for discussion at the city school board retreat later this week.

The two-day meeting begins Friday at Brasstown Valley Resort.

The Avenue of Flags - which includes banners representing the countries of the students enrolled at the high school - is on Saturday's agenda. It has been criticized in some circles including those who says only the U.S. flag should fly on school grounds.

Also on the agenda: building projects and budget update, athletic locker room improvements, and student projections for next year.

The complete agenda is as follows:

Friday:

4:00 pm -"Characteristics/Personality Test" with Cheryl Sullivan


6:00 pm Dinner:

7:00 pm -Review "Mission, Vision and Beliefs" and adopt for 2007
-Discussion on "minutes"
- '16X' Book - discussion

Saturday:

8:00 am Breakfast: senior staff will join as needed
