Bitter cold settles across NE Georgia

By by Ken Stanford
UNDATED - The coldest weather since Dec. 8 settled across northeast Georgia Monday morning, with readings in the teens and wind chills in the single digits.

The cold air was ushered in on the wings of strong winds that blew into the area Sunday and Sunday night. Winds were gusting to around 40 miles an hour at times. The maximum gust recorded in Gainesville was 33 miles per hour.

The wind is believed to have been responsible for a power outage that affected parts of west Gainesville Sunday night. (See separate story.)
