Two Georgia hikers missing in rain and fog for more than 12 hours in a mountain recreational area were able to walk out of the wilderness unharmed, members of a search team said Friday.

"They just walked out. They are fine _ just cold and wet," rescue team member Joshua Ingle said shortly before 2:30 p.m. EST.

Jordan Linger, 21, and John Lockley, 19, both of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., had been reported missing about midnight Thursday after they didn't return from a day hike in an area known as the "pocket wilderness" on Mowbray Mountain.

An hour later, a search team that eventually involved about 20 to 30 rescuers began looking for the two in the area about 10 miles north of Chattanooga. The rescue effort was hampered by rain and fog in the area.

The search included using a global positioning satellite to track an incompleted emergency call from one of the men's cell phones, Hamilton County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ron Rice said.

Rice said the two men began their hike early Thursday. He said one of them contacted a family member by cell phone about noon Thursday, saying they were on top of the mountain and planning to stop at some waterfalls.

The emergency call was placed at about 7 a.m. Friday but didn't connect, Rice said.
