LANDOVER, Md. - Ryan Longwell drilled a 31-yard field goal with one minute left as the Minnesota Vikings escaped with a 19-to-16 triumph at Washington.<br>

Brad Johnson engineered a 54-yard drive that was capped by Longwell's second field goal of the game, which allowed Brad Childress to earn a victory in his first game as the Vikings' coach.<br>

Johnson was 16-of-30 for 223 yards, including a 20-yard scoring pass to Marcus Robinson that put the Vikes ahead 16-to-13 in the third quarter.<br>

John Hall tied the score in the third period with his third field goal of the game. But he missed a 48-yard kick with 12 seconds remaining, clinching the win for the Vikings.<br>

Minnesota running back Chester Taylor carried 31 times for 88 yards and a touchdown.<br>

Clinton Portis ran for the Redskins' first touchdown after being listed as questionable with a shoulder injury. Portis ran ten times for 39 yards.<br>
