STORRS, Conn. - Connecticut had never beaten an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent before routing Wake Forest in Winston-Salem three years ago.

It was 51-to-17 and another stepping stone in the Huskies' ascent from Division One-A-A.

On Saturday, Wake Forest will come into East Hartford with a chance to start a season three-and-oh for the first time since 1987.

But they will have to do it with a redshirt freshman at quarterback. Riley Skinner took over the job after Benjamin Mauk broke his arm in the win over Syracuse and was lost for the season.

Skinner completed 22-of-29 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in the 14-13 win last week against Duke.

The Demon Deacons also have Micah Andrews, who is second in the A-C-C in rushing.

They face a Connecticut defense that has led the Big East each of the past two years.

But the Huskies gave up 198 yards on the ground in a 52-to-7 win against Division One-A-A Rhode Island in their season opener.
