COLUMBIA, S.C. - An assault charge against South Carolina quarterback Blake Mitchell has been dropped, and he's back on the team.
Mitchell was supended from the team on Wednesday, after being arrested on a simple assault charge for allegedly punching a bouncer at a bar. But the charge was dropped today after bouncer Kylan Ertzberger withdrew the complaint.
Mitchell has been reinstated to the team and will be in uniform tomorrow against Wofford, although coach Steve Spurrier says Mitchell won't play.
Spurrier said before the fight he hadn't planned to use Mitchell much against Wofford -- partly because of a lingering hand injury and also because of the Gamecocks' poor play on offense the first two games.
South Carolina is ranked 99th on offense of 119 NCAA Division One-A teams. Mitchell completed almost 64 percent of his passes in a win at Mississippi State and loss against Georgia, but he has yet to throw a touchdown pass.
