Public input wanted on Ga. 400, Ga. 365 transportation needs

GAINESVILLE - Public input meetings are planned in Lula and Dawsonville later this month as part of a Georgia Department of Transportation study of the Georgia 365 and Georgia 400 corridors.

GDOT officials say the study will identify needs and prioritize the resulting transportation projects along the two four-lane highways. The state first engaged the study areas' stakeholders by collecting origin-destination data through roadside surveys in Habersham and Forsyth counties.

"We are gathering statistical information on the study areas but there is no substitute for input from people who use the road every day" explained District Engineer Russell McMurry. "We need to know what you think needs to be improved about the road and what you think about the road's future."

These meetings are the first of two sets of public meetings designed to hear what the public has to say about the issues and opportunities along this corridor. The public meetings will be an interactive, open-house style meeting. Presentation boards showing graphic representations of the corridors will be displayed and interactive stations which would allow meeting participants to document travel patterns and identify issue areas along the corridor. Study staff will be on hand to interact one-on-one with the public, to receive input and to answer questions.

The Lula meeting will be Tuesday, August 29, from 4:00-7:00 at Lula Elementary School, 6130 Chattahoochee Street . The Dawsonville meeting is planned a week earlier on Tuesday, August 22, during the same hours at Black's Mill Elementary School, located at 1860 Dawson Forest Road.
