INDIANAPOLIS - An Oklahoma junior college player signed a basketball letter of intent with IUPUI on Tuesday.
Fred Kounkorgo, a 6-foot-6 forward at Connors State last season, will have three years of eligibility with the Division I university.
``Fred's going to fill a void that we sorely need,'' IUPUI coach Ron Hunter said. ``He's really strong with the basketball and plays well above the rim.''
Kounkorgo, born in Ivory Coast, lived in France and moved to the United States at age 13. He played at Notre Dame Prep in Lowell, Mass., and in two games at Hartford before he was injured early in the 2004-05 season.
Last year, after transferring to Connors State in Warner, Okla., he averaged 8.2 points and 6.3 rebounds.
