Bulldogs whip Arizona

STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - Jeffrey Rea went 4-for-4 and Mississippi State rallied to rout Arizona 9-2 on Saturday in the second game of the Cadence Bank Classic.

Andy Rice drove in three runs for the Bulldogs (10-0), who fell behind 2-0 in the third before shutting down the Wildcats the rest of the way.

Mississippi State scored three runs in the fourth inning and took a 4-2 lead. Jeff Butts tripled home one run, Rea's run-scoring sacrifice fly scored the go-ahead run and Brad Jones's RBI single scored Ed Easley.

Rice's three-run double keyed a four-run eighth inning.

Josh Johnson worked five innings and improved to 3-0. Preston Guilmet (1-2) took the loss for Arizona (10-7). Mike Valentine pitched two innings for his first save.

Konrad Schmidt had an RBI double and T.J. Steele had a run-scoring fielder's choice for Arizona.

The game was delayed 56 minutes in the seventh inning because of rain.
