Wichita State beat Seton Hall of the vaunted Big East Conference 86-to-66 in a first-round game of the N-C-A-A men's basketball tournament. That gives the mid-major conference an impressive debut after hearing plenty of negatives about its haul of four N-C-A-A tournament bids.<br>

The seventh-seeded Shockers were playing their first N-C-A-A tournament game since an 83-to-62 first-round loss to DePaul in 1988. Wichita State improves to 25-and-8 with the upset victory.<br>

The tenth-seeded Pirates finish 18-and-12.<br>

Seton Hall was playing in the tourney for the second time in three seasons.<br>

It's Wichita State's first tournament win in 25 years.<br>
