AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) West Virginia seemed to do everything right and Southern Illinois could not keep up as the Mountaineers prevailed 64-to-46.<br>

Kevin Pittsnogle scored 18 points. The Mountaineers made eleven three-pointers. They had a run of 14 unanswered points in the first half and another run of 12 straight in the second half.<br>

West Virginia looked nothing like the team that entered the tournament with five losses in its last seven games.<br>

Jamaal Tatum and Matt Shaw each scored 12 points for Southern Illinois.<br>
