A man who was wanted for questioning in a murder was speeding from a police traffic stop when he crashed into a pickup truck, killing both people in the truck.

Atlanta police stopped Eddie Eulon Robinson, 26, around 1 p.m. Thursday. But when the officer approached Robinson's sport utility vehicle, he sped off, police spokeswoman Sylvia Abernathy said.

Robinson was trying to turn left onto Interstate 85 when he struck a pickup truck, Abernathy said. Both the driver and passenger of the truck were killed. The Fulton County Medical Examiners Office identified them as Lamarcus Pearson, 33, of Atlanta and Walter McCroskey, 64, of Decatur.

Abernathy said the crash was not the result of a police chase. The officer involved in the traffic stop had not made it back to his patrol car when Robinson ran into the pickup truck.

"It was literally a matter of moments," Abernathy said.

Robinson, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Charges against him are pending. He was wanted for questioning in the death of Keayon Baty, police said.

___

HASH(0x1cd9e3c)
