Former Gold Club owner faces new charges after arrest in New York

<p>Former Atlanta strip club owner Steve Kaplan, who pleaded guilty in 2001 to racketeering charges and was sentenced to 16 months in prison, has been arrested again in New York.</p><p>The U.S. Attorney's Office announced an indictment charging Kaplan and attorney Larry Bronson with racketeering conspiracy, witness tampering, bribery and obstruction of justice. Bronson also is charged with contempt of court.</p><p>Both were arrested Friday morning in New York and were scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon at U.S. District Court in Brooklyn.</p><p>Bronson and Kaplan, identified in the indictment as an alleged associate of the Gambino family, allegedly engaged in repeated acts of witness intimidation and attempted bribery in connection with the investigation and prosecution of charges involving the Gold Club, the strip club in Atlanta that was owned by Kaplan.</p><p>The Gold Club, a notorious Atlanta attraction that often drew tourists, celebrities and pro athletes, was shut down after Kaplan pleaded guilty to racketeering charges.</p><p>If convicted of the new charge of racketeering conspiracy, Bronson and Kaplan face a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $250,000 fine.</p>
