DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) Former major league star Darryl Strawberry has been accused of filing a false police report. Strawberry told Delray Beach, Florida, police that his rented S-U-V had been stolen when he went inside a gas station to buy cigarettes. Strawberry filed the report on September 17th. Investigators watched a surveillance video which, they say, shows him driving off in another car.
An anonymous caller later told police that the S-U-V was parked behind a sports bar 15 miles away. Strawberry's wallet was found inside.
Strawberry admitted to police yesterday that lied in the original report.
A police spokesman says Strawberry apparently allowed someone to borrow the car.
Strawberry was not arrested, because filing a false police report is a misdemeanor.
