Fort Stewart-based soldier killed in bomb attack in Iraq

<p>A north Florida soldier died in Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during a mission assessing mines, the Department of Defense said Monday.</p><p>Pfc. Timothy J. Seamans and three other soldiers who died Thursday in Samarra, Iraq, were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.</p><p>Seamans, 20, from Arlington near Jacksonville, joined the Army last summer about two months after graduating from high school. He left for Iraq on Jan. 15 and was stationed in Samarra, which is located about 75 miles north of Baghdad.</p><p>He last visited in May for Mother's Day and saw his sister Ashley graduate from high school.</p><p>Seamans' father David said his son lived through a missile attack while on patrol just two days before army officers notified the family of Timothy's death. In that incident, the missile hit the Humvee, the vehicle was destroyed, but he was fine.</p><p>"When they come, you know," David Seamans said.</p><p>He also praised every soldier serving in the war.</p><p>"They all rose their right hand freely to defend and serve our country," he said. "You can't ask for any more than that."</p><p>On Thursday, neighbors rushed to offer help as soon as they heard about Seamans' death, setting up a table with food. People brought flags, yellow ribbons and candles for the memorial set up in front of David and Monica Seamans' home.</p><p>Carolina Gardner, a neighbor, described them as "godparents of the neighborhood, always keeping an eye out for the children."</p><p>The other soldiers killed in the attack were Sgt. Nathan K. Bouchard, 24, of Wildomar, Calif., Staff Sgt. Jeremy W. Doyle, 24, of Chesterton, Md., and Spc. Ray M. Fuhrmann, II, 28, of Novato, Calif.</p>
