OXFORD, Miss. (AP) The Mississippi offense found its groove, and the defense discovered its spirit, during the Rebels' third scrimmage of the preseason Saturday.
Micheal Spurlock threw for 140 yards and Jamal Pittman and Antonio Turner each rushed for touchdowns in the scrimmage.
``We were more in sync with everything, especially on offense,'' coach Ed Orgeron said. ``The plays were coming in on time. On defense, we played with more emotion, and that's what I want to be able to do.''
Spurlock was 12-of-21 passing and rushed for 31 yards. Robert Lane was 8-of-14 for 55 yards, and Ethan Flatt was 6-of-10 for 83 yards.
Pittman led all rushers with 72 yards.
Burnell Wallace and Mike Espy each had six catches for 59 yards.
``They got the defense on its heels in the second half and really competed,'' Orgeron said. ``Micheal made some good plays on third down.''
Will Moseley hit a 52-yard field goal and Matt Hinkle converted from 39 yards out.
Two linebackers dominated on defense. Keith Houston had six tackles and Garry Pack had 5.5 stops, including two behind the line of scrimmage.
