A police SWAT team has arrested a man who is accused of shooting a woman to death and injuring another woman.

Police say the woman who was killed had had an affair with the man.

The incident began around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot, where two beauty school students were on their way to class.

A man approached them and killed Nicole Walker, 35, with a gunshot to the head, Macon police spokeswoman Melanie Hofmann said. Annie Moss, 49, was injured by a gunshot wound to the hip.

An arrest warrant was issued for Frederick Gary after he confessed to family members who contacted police, Hofmann said.

Detectives spotted Gary's truck returning to his house and called in a SWAT team. But Gary had climbed onto the roof of his home and fired at least one gunshot at officers, Hofmann said.

The SWAT team deployed explosive charges called flashbangs in an attempt to disorient Gary. Authorities also called in a Georgia State Patrol helicopter with infrared sensory equipment.

The helicopter, which arrived around 11:55 p.m., shone a light on Gary, who was trying to hide near a tree hanging over the house. Officers then detonated two more flashbangs.

"Those last flashbangs disoriented him and they were able to get on the roof and grab him," Hofmann said.

Gary had a relationship with Walker, Hofmann said. Walker's husband told police he knew about the relationship, but the couple decided to stay married. He told police his wife had ended the relationship with Gary, Hofmann said.

___

HASH(0x1cd9b0c)
