MADISON, Wis. (AP) Barry Alvarez says he'll coach Wisconsin's football team just one more year. He'll step down after the coming season and become the school's full-time athletic director. He's held both jobs since April of last year.
The school plans a smooth transition. Alvarez says defensive coordinator Bret Bielema (BEE'-leh-mah) will take over in 2006.
Alvarez has a record of 108-70-and-4 during 15 seasons at Wisconsin. He's 7-and-3 in bowl games. Wisconsin had not been to a Rose Bowl since 1963 before he led them into the Rose Bowl in 1994.
