Baseball's Olympics future on the line

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) Next month, the International Olympic Committee votes on all 28 sports currently in the Olympics. Any sport that does not receive a majority of supporting votes gets tossed from the games.<br> <br> Waiting in line to replace them are golf, rugby, karate, squash and roller sports.<br> <br> Baseball is one of those in jeopardy. I-O-C president Jacques Rogge (ROH&#39;-geh) three years ago proposed that baseball, softball and modern pentathlon be dropped. But Rogge today said Major League Baseball&#39;s recent steps against steroid abuse are good news not only for baseball but for the entire Olympic movement.<br> <br> Baseball has been an Olympic medal sport only since 1992. It has poor support in Europe, high stadium construction costs, problems with steroid use in the major leagues and, in the past, top U-S stars haven&#39;t been available for the Olympics.
