By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer, Russell McMurry announces the resurfacing of State Route 124 from State Route 20 in Gwinnett County to State Route 53 in Braselton will begin Monday night at 9:00, weather permitting.

"Preventative maintenance is as important on a roadway as it is for your vehicle," explained McMurry. "If we don't keep up with the maintenance while it can be fixed easily, it will cost us more time and money to fix it later. That's why we will be upgrading State Route 124 this summer."

Crews will begin work Monday night, closing the northbound lane of State Route 124 at State Route 20 and will work northward starting at 9:00pm. Crews will work overnights to 6:00am patching the roadway and doing the prep work before they can actually begin resurfacing the road. Work will occur nightly, weather permitting, from 9:00pm to 6:00am. Flaggers and pilot vehicles will be utilized to move traffic safely through the work zone.

Crews will close one lane at a time as they work on the roadway. Delays are expected. Please use alternate routes whenever possible. The 17 mile project from State Route 20 in Gwinnett through Barrow County to State Route 53 in Jackson County has a July 31, 2005 completion date.
