GAINESVILLE - Zac Swansey scored 13 of his game-high 27 points in a pivotal third quarter to lead the Flowery Branch boys basketball team to a 79-59 win over Chestatee Tuesday night at the Chestatee gym.

The Falcons (10-6) blew open a close game at halftime outscoring the War Eagles (8-7) 27-15 in the third quarter. They have now won three straight and four of their last five games.

"I think we're starting to play a lot better the last two or three games. We've got a lot of guys stepping up now and really playing well," Flowery Branch coach Mike Adcock said.

So well, in fact, that for the first time in school history the Falcons had two players register a double-double.

Colby Newton had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Adarius Rogers had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Isiah Cross also had 13 points for Flowery Branch.

The Falcons outrebounded the War Eagles nearly two-to-one and dominated the inside.

Chestatee never led in the game and got as close as 19-18 in the second quarter aftera 7-0 run. But the Falcons answered with an 8-0 run to make it 27-18.

In the fourth quarter the Falcons extended their lead to as many as 24 but Chestatee used a 13-2 run to close to within 69-56 with just over three minutes left. They could get no closer.

"Chestatee does a lot of good things and their guards just give us fits. But I thought we made some plays when we needed to," Adcock said.

For Chestatee, Charlie Fischer had a team-high 18 points while Jesus Cantu added 16, 10 in the fourth quarter. Corey Black added 9 to give their guards nearly 70 percent of their offense. Andrew Barnes had 11 for the War Eagles.
