<p>An elementary school girl who fell unconscious after choking on a hot dog at her school cafeteria has died, officials said.</p><p>Arely Rodriguez died last week after the food lodged in her windpipe at Midway Elementary School in Forsyth County, said county coroner Lauren McDonald III.</p><p>The girl and some friends apparently were joking about who could be the fastest at eating a hot dog, witnesses told the coroner.</p><p>Minutes after she began choking, a school nurse unsuccessfully tried to dislodge the food using the Heimlich maneuver. Other revival attempts by an emergency medical crew also failed.</p><p>The child never regained consciousness in the Sept. 9 accident and died a week later after being removed from life support at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, McDonald said.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x1a7b158)</p>
