KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE - University of Tennessee receiver James Banks will undergo knee surgery Friday and could miss the entire season, coach Philip Fulmer told The Tennessean newspaper.
Banks, a former quarterback for the Volunteers, already was suspended for the first three games of the season by Fulmer for problems off the field.
Tests revealed Banks has meniscus damage in his knee and doctors hope to be able to remove it. If they have to repair it, Banks could miss the season.
Banks, a junior from Indianapolis, was Tennessee's leading receiver last year with 42 catches for 621 yards. He also was a possibility to play in the Vols' secondary this season.
