STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - McKinley Scott will take the field in his head coach's first game and catch passes from someone who has never thrown in college.

That's fine with him, because the Mississippi State receiver knows all about breaking in new offenses drawn up by rotating coaches.

He's playing for his third offensive coordinator in the past three seasons in Starkville. As the most experienced of the Bulldogs' healthy receivers, he expects coach Sylvester Croom and quarterback Omarr Conner to handle the pressure of their double debut.

He says it helps to have experienced hands to throw to, especially in Croom's pass-dominated West Coast scheme.

When it comes to catching passes, Scott is Mississippi State's default elder statesman.

He's the only senior receiver expected to play against Tulane on Saturday, and, as the Bulldogs' best deep threat, also is the most prolific wideout in the starting lineup.

Normally, that role would fall to Ray Ray Bivines -- whose 80 career catches dwarfs Scott's total of 31. But he's out with a nagging hamstring injury.

That puts Scott at the top of the list.
