Fort Valley State opens with win

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Derrick Wimbush rushed for two touchdowns Saturday to lift Fort Valley State past Winston-Salem State 21-19.<br> <br> Wimbush scored from 4 and 72 yards out in the second quarter for the Wildcats (2-0), who also got a 32-yard scoring pass from Willie Copeland to Adam Bailey. Wimbush rushed 12 times for 132 yards before he was ejected early in the third quarter for a second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.<br> <br> Josh McGee has two touchdown passes for the Rams (0-2), who tried to rally from 11 points down at halftime.<br> <br> Wimbush&#39;s big run gave the Wildcats a 14-3 edge with 14:05 left in the first half, a lead that grew to 21-10 on his 4-yard score.<br> <br> But Wimbush was ejected with 13:32 left in the third quarter, giving the Rams a chance to cut into the deficit. Winston-Salem State&#39;s Matt Hind kicked a 38-yard field goal, and eventually the Rams closed the gap to 21-19 on McGee&#39;s 17-yard touchdown pass to Stan Wright.<br> <br> But the Rams came up short on the 2-point conversion. McGee&#39;s pass for Jared Brevard was broken up by Derrick Fitzgerald with 18 seconds left in the third quarter.<br> <br> Brandon Hussey had 11 catches for 106 yards for Winston-Salem State.
