GAINESVILLE - Early voting was proving a hit with Hall countians Monday.
At mid-afternoon, a steady stream of voters was filing through the county elections office at Pearl Nix Parkway and Dawsonville Highway. It was mixture of working people and retirees, all taking advantage of the state's relatively new concept of allowing people to vote up to a week in advance of election day.
Director of Elections Anne Phillips said it had been that way most of the day, except in the early part of the day when the office first opened.
State elections officials have said this will be the first "real test" of the system which is designed to relieve long lines on election day.
Those voting Monday were casting ballots in the General Election primaries which are not scheduled until next Tuesday, July 20. It was the first day of advance voting for the primaries.
Advance voting will continue through Friday.
There are three ballots to choose from: Non-Partisan, Democratic and Republican. The non-partisan races also appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots.
The advance votes will not be counted until election night.
